Our mission
We exist to close the gap between vision and capital
Too many nonprofits, small businesses, and community organizations have the programs, the leadership, and the community trust to make a real difference — but lack the grant writing expertise, the strategic clarity, or the organizational infrastructure to access the funding they need.
The Philip Morgan Group exists to close that gap. We bring 20 years of federal grant writing, nonprofit formation, business consulting, and capital strategy experience to every engagement — working as a true partner, not a vendor.
Our story
Founded in Washington D.C. in 2004
Philip Morgan founded the firm after more than a decade working inside government agencies and nonprofit organizations in the Washington D.C. region. He saw firsthand how the funding landscape worked — and how often deserving organizations were left behind not because of the quality of their work, but because of the quality of their applications.
He started The Philip Morgan Group to change that. What began as a solo grant writing practice has grown into a full-service consulting firm with deep expertise across community development, workforce development, housing, health services, and small business support.
Over two decades, the firm has secured more than $85 million for clients across the country — and built a reputation for the kind of direct, honest, results-oriented consulting that clients return to year after year.
Our values
What we believe
Directness
We tell clients what we think, not what they want to hear. Honest assessment at the start of an engagement saves time, money, and disappointment later.
Accountability
We own our work and our outcomes. When something isn't working, we say so and fix it — we don't hide behind process or pass the problem back to the client.
Depth over volume
We take on a limited number of engagements at any time so every client gets a lead consultant's full attention — not a junior associate and a project management tool.
Long-term thinking
We measure success not by whether a grant was submitted, but by whether it was funded — and whether the organization is stronger for having worked with us.
What sets us apart
Why clients choose The Philip Morgan Group
You work with the principal
Philip Morgan leads every engagement personally. There are no handoffs to junior staff, no rotating teams, and no account managers standing between you and the person doing the work.
Federal grant expertise, not just writing
We understand how federal programs are designed, how reviewers score applications, and what agencies are actually looking for — not just how to fill out a form. That knowledge is the difference between a competitive application and a funded one.
Integrated strategy and execution
We don't just write grants. We help clients build the organizational infrastructure, capital strategy, and program design that makes them competitive — and keeps them competitive after the engagement ends.
Washington D.C. perspective
Two decades of working in and around the federal government gives us insight into policy priorities, agency relationships, and funding cycles that consultants outside the D.C. ecosystem simply don't have.
